OMGWTF?! - Airport Unsecurity

I don't normally watch the local news. There is so much shady crap that goes on in Charlotte on a daily basis. It's kind of disturbing. I'm not one of those freaky people who think the world is ending. I do not think there is an impending apocalypse. It's just that watching sad stuff on the news makes me sad. And I don't like being sad. TV is for entertainment. Sad shit is not entertaining to me, so I often choose not to watch it.

Anywayyy...so I was just watching the news. Apparently a loaded gun was confiscated at the Charlotte Airport today at a security checkpoint. W.T.F. And apparently it was the 14TH GUN that has been found at Charlotte-Douglas so far this year!!! That freaking blows my mind. HOW IS THIS NOT BIGGER NEWS?

I was shocked to hear that. Fourteen freaking guns in 6 months. Is that average? How many guns are found at the Charlotte airport in past years? How many guns have been found in nearby airports? How about across the country? Who the F are the people doing this?

This piqued my interest. I did a quick Google search for 'guns found at airports', and apparently, this kind of stuff happens WAYYY MORE that I would have ever imagined. Just last week a loaded gun was found at the Boise airport. , making it the 4th gun found in 2013. That same day, a gun was found at the Orlando airport, , marking the 19th gun confiscated so far this year.

I scrolled through the Google results and gathered some other interesting stats from a few headlines. In 2011, 1306 guns were found in US airports. In 2012, there were over 1500.

Crazy stuff.

THE MOVIE : 21 & Over

The movie 21 & Over was recently released on DVD and Pay Per View. The last time my husband and I went to a movie in the theater (which sadly, was probably 6 months ago...literally), we saw the preview for this movie and thought it looked pretty funny, and I made a mental note to rent it when it came out on video.

So yesterday I took the plunge and bought a 48 hour rental on pay per view for six bucks (after adding $1 for HD, which I'm pretty sure had zero visual effect). I watched it with my husband, and while it wasn't a horrible movie, it definitely wasn't worth the $6 we shelled out for it.

In the previews, they boasted that it was made by the people who crafted the amazingly hilarious Hangover movie(s)...(I put the 's' in parentheses because only the first Hangover movie was truly awesome in an unexpected way and is becoming legendary...while the 2nd movie was mediocre, and the 3rd I have yet to see).

I think the only similarity between 21 & Over and The Hangover is that the plots are extremely cliche and overdone (someone turning 21 and drinking a lot & a bachelor party in Vegas with lots of drinking and debauchery), and centered around crazy shit that happens when you get wasted. Some of it was funny, but a lot of the very funny scenes were in the previews... and the characters had some funny conversations using some bold and witty dialogue. But other than that, this movie was pretty lame.

THE VERDICT: Thumbs Down, Dislike

It's funny enough that if you came across it on tv (free, NOT PPV), you should check it out...but don't go out of your way to see it. It really wasn't all that good.

One thing that kind of irked me, a lot, was the insertion and continual reappearance of a girl to flirt with one of the birthday boy's friends. And I actually like the guy normally...He was in Pitch Perfect (LOVE! THUMBS UP! LIKE) and I really liked him in that. (I just Googled it...apparently his name is Skylar Astin). But this girl who was supposed to be a flirty, slutty love/lust interest type seriously annoyed me for some reason. I just didn't like the character. It was just RIDICULOUSLY predictable and stupid. She is introduced early on in a bar scene, where the group of party people have a pointed but jokey conversation about masturbation. She then randomly meets up with this boy (serendipity? not so much) at several more places/parties throughout the evening. Throughout their series of meetings ,we find out that she has a boyfriend, but then she's sad because they just broke up, and then they make out at the end, all 'happily ever after' style. Lame.

The Vicious Kind

This movie has been in my Netflix queue for quite some time, so I decided to watch it today while I recovered from a minor hangover. Anyway, I thought maybe it had potential to be good. The main character is played by Adam Scott, the cute guy from Parks and Recreation, and the female lead is cute and somewhat recognizable, although I can't recall exactly where I've seen her before.

I've been watching it for roughly an hour, and I still can't figure out what it's about, or where it's going. So far,  Adam Scott has smoked a bunch of cigarettes and cried a lot.

I keep waiting for it to get better...but I'm not gonna hold my breath. I laughed out loud a few times, but overall, this movie is weird. It's slow and confusing and weird and I don't get it.

THE VERDICT: THUMBS DOWN
